IS IT POSSIBLE FOR TEACHER TO USE ENGLISH WITHOUT USE MOTHER TONGUE IN TEACHING PROCESS?

Indonesia is a developing country that is preparing its generation to have the standard of capabilities which possessed by other countries in the world. ‘Is it possible for teachers in Indonesia to use full English in teaching without use the mother tongue at all? ‘.

Direct Method is the learning of language in a relevant setting. This method has one basic rule and that is that no translation is allowed. The meaning of the name "Direct Method" comes from the fact that meaning is to be conveyed directly into the second language through demonstration and visual aids.
The main principles of the Direct Method are as follows:
• Students are encouraged to think in the target language.
• Indonesian language is not used in the classroom.
• The learner is actively involved in using the language in realistic everyday situations.
• Speaking is taught first before reading or writing.
• Only everyday vocabulary and sentences are taught.
• Concrete vocabulary is taught through demonstration, objects, and pictures.
Could it be? I do not think so. We have to realize that there are so many students who haven’t been able yet to capture of what the teacher means when he use this method. There are still many children using the local language as their everyday language. Sometimes they are even harder to understand the Indonesian language. Teachers should still use the Indonesian language or regional languages as a tool for teaching English.
